A tram's eye view of a bustling Hope Street, in the 1940s. Then, as now, it was major cross-city artery for public transport, although, thankfully, the trams didn't belch out choking diesel fumes.
Back then, the street was two way, with the buses and trams having to compete for space with cars, coal lorries, and the ubiquitous Glasgow jay-walker.
The ads on the side of Central Station provide some interesting eye-candy, but look at the colour of the stonework; blackened due to years of soot and pollution. If it did that to sandstone, imagine what it did to our lungs!
